That is, dock icons like disk icons!
Try messing around with the settings. I don't use icon text and changed the
Amidock background/strip to some nice textures supplied with a raytracer.

You really don't need many IMO, as you notice when the "under the bonnet
changes" become aparent. I only have Cycle2Menu for popups in really old
progs and AssignZ for when I am trying coverdisk stuff that may well be in
the bin a few seconds after trying. All my other WBstartup stuff is
OS3.9/BoingBag.

Now I have AmiDock setup with separate categories of tools everything is 1
or 2 clicks away.

It is important to read the docs thoroughly for use with OS3.5/9, due to way
that icon handling/dragging etc. has changed. Incorrect usage can cause
memory corruption etc... See also 0S3.9FAQ on Amiga website or in BoingBag
directory of AACD20.
